They are mixed, they are charros in a car!

cannery worker and engineer blood

Walking through the edge of paper

waiting for the page to turn

on multiracial ground

transcendent beams waiting to be born

mixed only by thought.

Do hugs grow when we color them

like broken bones

worshiping

the DNA of love

They are mole and salsa mixed

mixed of appfelstruddel

and meat loaf mix

vegetarian lasagna and low-fat I cant Believe its not butter mix

the mime of Charlie Chaplin

incomptible with Cantinflas

too mixed to stop

a two continent belly laugh

loud as gold

grins of soul

technology and education mixed

love on love

language upon language

history with history

travel by travel

skin over skin mixed

I was typing up this poem in response to Harold Shaw's comments about Watsonville, but I did not have the original article when my mother's neighbor María knocked at the door and gave me the Piñata Politics article from the Metro in which Mr. Shaw is introduced as Aptos candidate for the Pajaro Valley Unified School Dist Board of Trustees and quoted as saying "Watsonville is doomed" "There are lots of illegals, welfare fraud, heroin all over the place... and bars on almost every corner," "There's a foreign race coming across the border... the Josés and Marías with their campesino mentality" With my campesina mentality I wrote this in response to his saying "Watsonville is taken over by Catholics, Latinos and people intermarried to Mexicans" thinking about mixed marriages, my two sons, the sons of a mexican and a gringo mexican lover.
